Sony PRS-505 Review

Sometime last week, after what seemed like forever from purchase to arrival. my eReader finally came in the mail, I was excited, and I knew what to expect. The Sony PRS-505 is a sturdy well built electronic, I could say I feel safe about dropping it (even though I wont!) and the leather cover that It came gave it a much classier book feeling.

Navigation is extremely easy, from the main menu you can choose to, Continue reading, Select books by title, author, date, or any collections you have made using Sony readers PC/Mac software. Bookmarking your page is extremely easy, with just the push of a button the current page you are reading is bookmarked, but don’t feel you need to bookmark where you left off, because the PRS-505 remembers where you left of reading, so when you turn off your Reader at that page, the next time you turn it on guess where you will be, that’s right, right on that page. Or if you navigated away from there it will still remember where you left off reading in all of your books.

The 505 comes with enough memory, so if your intending on putting all of your favorite songs I wouldn’t recommend it. Syncing is more than simple, its a matter of dragging and dropping like most software nowadays. Audio quality is more than superb so if you want to put some of your favorite songs, its more than worth it to do so. Controlling what your playing is simple, with volume controls to the right of the audio jack and being able to fast forward through songs with the right thumb button. Picture quality is also impressive(but of course in only 8 levels of gray)

Now to what really matters, reading! I’ve already read 2 books on my 505, its more than simple. You can tell that the Sony Reader has been optimized for multiple reading positions(and I cant stress how important this is) This is a great thing to keep in mind since most readers change position many times over and over while they read. Lighting conditions don’t have to be great, but just remember the better the lighting is, the easier your read and the more sharp the text(or image) will appear.

But what does this eReader lack? why shouldn’t you buy it? Well some things come to mind. No wifi, and for the average price of about $200 and kindle only $60 dollars more with free global wireless internet, it kind of makes you want to invest the extra $60, right? But maybe you feel this is the Reader for you, like I did. I cant say I was wrong either, I love this thing. It gets what I want done no more no less, that’s all I need. All in all this device is more then great, Sony’s design team really found something here, overall a 4 out of 5 but only because of no wifi.
